The Problem

Why manual PR evaluation fails

Engineering teams struggle with consistent, objective evaluation of developer contributions.

Time-Consuming Reviews

Manual PR reviews take 20+ hours per week for engineering managers.

Inconsistent Standards

Different reviewers apply different criteria, leading to unfair evaluations.

No Objective Feedback

Developers lack clear metrics on how their contributions are valued.

Impact Hard to Quantify

Severity and business impact are difficult to measure consistently.

How It Works

From merge to score in seconds

GitRank automates the entire evaluation pipeline so you never have to manually score a PR again.

Step 1

PR Gets Merged

When a pull request is merged to your repository, GitHub sends a webhook to GitRank with the PR details.

Features

Intelligent evaluation at scale

Every aspect of AI evaluation is designed to be accurate, transparent, and fair.

Intelligent Component Detection

AI automatically classifies which area of your codebase the PR affects—Auth, Payments, API, UI, and more.

  • Auto-detects affected system areas
Use Cases

Built for real engineering needs

AI evaluation powers multiple workflows across your engineering organization.

Bug Bounty Programs

Problem

Manual evaluation of bug fixes takes hours and creates disputes over payout amounts.

Solution

AI scores every fix objectively. Payouts are calculated automatically based on severity and component.

FAQ

Common questions

How accurate is the AI classification?

In our testing, Claude correctly classifies component and severity ~90% of the time. You can review and override any evaluation if needed. The AI provides justification for its decisions to help you understand its reasoning.

What if the AI makes a mistake?

Every evaluation can be overridden by a human. You can adjust the component, severity, or final score. All changes are tracked in an audit log.

How does it handle large PRs?

Step 2

Diff is Fetched

GitRank fetches the full PR diff via GitHub API—including changed files, additions, deletions, and linked issues.

Step 3

Claude AI Analyzes

The diff is sent to Claude, which reads the code changes, understands the context, and determines the component and severity.

Reads PR title, description, and linked issues
Analyzes code changes across all files
Matches file paths to component rules
Determines severity based on impact
Step 4

Eligibility is Checked

The AI verifies eligibility criteria: Is it fixing an issue? Are tests included? Does the implementation match the claim?

Step 5

Score is Calculated

Final Score = Base Points (from severity) × Multiplier (from component). The score is posted as a comment on the PR.

  • Falls back to intelligent analysis
  • Handles multi-component PRs
  • Severity Classification

Each PR is classified into severity levels (P0-P3) based on the nature and impact of the changes.

    • P0: Critical security/stability fixes
    • P1: High-impact bug fixes
    • P2: Medium priority improvements
    • P3: Low priority refinements

    Context-Aware Analysis

Claude reads the full context—PR title, description, linked issues, and commit messages—not just the diff.

    • Understands PR intent and goals
    • Extracts linked issue details
    • Reads commit message history
    • Handles large diffs gracefully

    Eligibility Validation

AI checks if the PR meets your criteria: issue linked, tests included, implementation matches claims.

    • Verifies issue linking
    • Checks for test coverage
    • Validates implementation accuracy
    • Documents criteria results

    Score Transparency

Every evaluation includes a full breakdown of how the score was calculated and why.

    • Shows base points and multipliers
    • Explains AI reasoning
    • Lists eligibility results
    • Provides impact summary

    Human Override

Disagree with the AI? Review and adjust any evaluation with full audit trail support.

    • Override component or severity
    • Adjust final scores
    • Add manual comments
    • Full audit history

    Performance Reviews

    Problem

Quantifying developer contributions for reviews relies on subjective impressions.

    Solution

Pull objective metrics showing total impact, severity breakdown, and component expertise.

    Quality Tracking

    Problem

No visibility into code quality trends or which areas need attention.

    Solution

Track quality metrics over time. Identify bug hotspots and areas with declining scores.

GitRank intelligently chunks large diffs and processes them in context windows that Claude can handle. Very large PRs (1000+ lines) may take slightly longer but are still processed accurately.

Is my code safe with AI analysis?

PR diffs are sent to Claude (Anthropic) for evaluation. Anthropic has enterprise-grade security and does not train on customer data. For extra security, you can self-host GitRank with your own API key.

Can I disable AI evaluation for certain repos?

Yes, you can enable or disable evaluation on a per-repository basis. You can also configure which branches trigger evaluation.
